Most French people support sending peacekeepers to Ukraine, UWC VP says

A majority of 67 percent of French people favor sending a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine after the war ends, Volodymyr Kogutyak, UWC Vice President for Western Europe and Association of Ukrainians in France (AUF) Vice President, said in an interview with Suspilne.

“French people show exceptionally strong support for Ukraine and clearly understand the current situation not just in Ukraine but across Europe,” Kogutyak said.

Support for Ukraine remains strong in the French parliament, despite opposition from some parties. The far-left France Unbowed, led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, and the far-right National Rally, headed by Marine Le Pen, have consistently voted against aid for Kyiv.

“Of course, they continue to vote against support for Ukraine, but in their speeches, they express full solidarity with the heroic Ukrainian people, who are defending not just Ukraine but all of Europe,” Kogutyak said.

A March poll of 1,009 respondents by the Elabe Institute for BFMTV supports Kohutiak’s remarks. Nearly two-thirds of French people favor continued aid to Ukraine and the deployment of peacekeepers once hostilities end.

According to the poll, 64 percent of respondents want France to either increase (20 percent) or maintain (44 percent) its military assistance to Ukraine. Only 18 percent believe support should be reduced, while 17 percent think it should be halted entirely.

Meanwhile, 68 percent of French people oppose sending troops to Ukraine before the war with Russia ends. However, 67 percent support deploying peacekeepers after a peace agreement is signed with the Kremlin to help ensure security and stability in Ukraine.
