Mike Johnson: Ukraine needs full permission to use US weapons on Russian territory

The White House should give Ukraine full freedom of action in using American weapons, believes Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, as reported by Voice of America. The current partial permissions given by the Biden administration for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to use US weapons are insufficient, according to the politician.

“Washington should stop micromanaging military efforts in Ukraine,” says Johnson. “I don’t believe that we should be micromanaging the war effort in Ukraine. I think that we need to give them the weapons that are necessary to defend themselves and push back the Russians. So I oppose the President [Biden] on that. I have already said it, and I will again. We will have conversations with the White House about it,” he said.

At the same time, leaders of the Democratic Party in the House of Representatives also expressed hope that all restrictions on the use of US weapons against Russia would be lifted, journalists write.

On May 31, Ukraine received positive signals regarding the limited use of American weapons in the border region adjacent to Kharkiv Oblast, said Ukrainian President’s press secretary Serhii Nykyforov in an interview with The Guardian.

The decision allows the use of HIMARS missile systems provided by the US to strike Russian forces and command and control centers.
