The Ukrainian community in Türkiye held a memorial event on Victory Day over Nazism in World War II, reported Vita Mykhailova, the head of the Ukrainian Union “Ukrainian Family” in Antalya.
“Today, May 8, on the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, Ukrainians in Antalya remembered those who died in the struggle for their homeland from 1939 to 1945 and bowed their heads in honor of the heroes defending the Motherland today,” wrote Mykhailova.
Representatives of the community, consulate, and concerned citizens joined the demonstration. “War always means the loss of the most precious, the lives of people, cities, and villages. The horrors that were in the distant past for Ukrainians have become today’s reality,” said Mykhailova.
It is important now to do everything possible so that “the feat of Ukraine’s defenders, who defended our land and continue to defend it today, is never forgotten,” said activists.
Residents of Antalya supported the Ukrainian rally. “Many Turkish people approached, spoke words of support, and said ‘Glory to Ukraine.’ Some asked why we had gathered, believing the war had already ended. We explained to them that the war continues, it’s just that the Turkish media doesn’t report on it,” said Mykhailova.
“Ukrainians must stand for freedom. For a peaceful future. To confidently and definitively say: ‘Never again’,” concluded the head of the Ukrainian Union “Ukrainian Family” in Antalya.
