A memorial plaque was unveiled in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital, to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Prosvita Ukrainian Cultural Society, announced Jorge Danylyshyn, UWC Vice President for South America and President of Prosvita.

Prosvita was founded on Aug. 1, 1924, becoming the first Ukrainian cultural center in Argentina. “The plaque was installed at the initiative of the Buenos Aires Legislative Assembly,” said the Ukrainian community.

The organization’s president and UWC regional vice president, Jorge Danylyshyn, expressed his gratitude to the guests, particularly legislator Pablo Donatti for his initiative in installing the plaque. He added that the memorial on the Prosvita building symbolizes the recognition of the Ukrainian community’s contribution to Argentina’s cultural life and the preservation of national identity abroad.

After the official ceremony, attendees were invited to a festive reception, which concluded the celebration.

As reported earlier, the 100th anniversary of the Prosvita Ukrainian Cultural Society was celebrated in August. A UWC delegation, led by Paul Grod, took part in the three-day festivities that month in the Golden Hall of the Buenos Aires City Council.
