Mavka. The Forest Song to expand into series

Mavka. The Forest Song feature film will get a prequel. A series will be shot based on the animated film, as Film.UA promo producer Kseniia Baranova told the American media Variety

Mavka and the Secret of the Radiant Cave series will consist of 12 episodes and tell about the full-length cartoon’s events. The action unfolds immediately after the battle between humans and Lesh, the forest guardian. In each episode, the main character and her friends will overcome new challenges and will face helping the forest recover and restoring order and harmony.

“With Swampy the Kittyfrog, Hush the Noise Keeper, and the Nymphs, Mavka will go through unexpected, fun, and sometimes dangerous adventures in the forest. While attempting to take care of their home, they explore it and uncover many secrets,” Baranova added.

The Animagrad studio will produce the series. The project will be presented at a pitch in Annecy, France. At the same time, Mavka. The Forest Song creators are building large-scale plans for the story’s future about the forest heroine.

“We see it as a possible franchise. We already launched a dancing show, and we will be planning a sequel as well,” one of the producers of the full-length cartoon, Iryna Kostyuk said.

Mavka. The Forest Song became the highest-grossing Ukrainian cartoon. For fifteen weeks of national distribution, box office fees amounted to almost UAH 151 million (approximately USD 4 million). The film was broadcast in 80 countries. In France, Mavka even overtook Shazam! Fury of the Gods American action film.

“The film has been or will be released everywhere except for China, with talks currently underway for Japan and South Africa. Our partners are amazed at how well it is doing,” Iryna Kostyuk said.

Earlier, Russia stole the cartoon. One of the Russian cinemas illegally broadcasted the tape.
