Ukraine should be allowed to strike Russian territory with Western weapons, stated French President Emmanuel Macron at a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports.
“We think that we should allow them to neutralize military sites where missiles are fired, from where… Ukraine is attacked,” Macron emphasized. However, he stressed that “we should not allow them to touch other targets in Russia, and obviously civilian facilities.”
To illustrate his point, the French president displayed a map of the military operations in Ukraine, attempting to convince the allies of the need to lift the prohibition.
Meanwhile, the German Chancellor said that Ukraine could defend itself as long as it adheres to the conditions set by the weapon-supplying countries – including the United States – and international law. “Ukraine has every possibility under international law for what it is doing. That has to be said explicitly. I find it strange when some people argue that it should not be allowed to defend itself and take measures that are suitable for this,” Scholz said.
In a recent development, Poland has authorized Ukraine to utilize the weapons it supplied for attacks on Russian territory, as confirmed by the Deputy Head of the Polish Ministry of Defense. Poland joins nine other nations in this decision, including Sweden, Finland, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, France, and the Netherlands.
Earlier, the Ukrainian military analyst and former advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Kopytko, explained that the Russians find more reasons to concentrate their efforts on Kharkiv as the Ukrainian military acquires more long-range weapons.
