UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are engaged in ongoing discussions to visit the White House next week and present a peace plan, according to the Daily Mail, citing sources.
The delegation is expected to propose a plan to end the Russo-Ukrainian war to the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
This plan is likely linked to an initiative discussed at the European Defense Summit in London on March 2.
At the summit, Macron proposed a one-month ceasefire for Ukraine over its skies, at sea, and in energy sectors. Downing Street, as confirmed by Starmer, is also prepared to close Ukrainian airspace to ensure its security.
The plan is now expected to be submitted to the Washington for consideration.
Zelenskyy also referenced this plan in his statement on March 4, underscoring Ukraine’s desire for peace.
“We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky – [a] ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure – and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same,” Zelenskyy wrote.
Ukraine aims to “move very fast through all next stages” and work with the U.S. on securing a “strong final deal.”
Zelenskyy’s statement came shortly after media reports on the potential reduction of U.S. military aid to Ukraine.
“We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. […] Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive,” Zelenskyy said.
Additionally, Ukraine’s second war-time president expressed Ukraine’s readiness to sign a minerals and security agreement with the U.S. at “any time and in any convenient format.”
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and the Ukrainian community are deeply concerned by the White House’s statement on potentially halting aid to Ukraine. The UWC has called on Trump and the U.S. Congress to maintain and strengthen critical support for Ukraine in its battle against Russian aggression.
