Latvia’s government on an initiative of the Culture Ministry has decided to allocate €559,640 in the state budget for unforeseen expenses for the support of the Ukrainian public media, Delfi reported on Sunday.
These funds will be transferred to the Public Electronic Mass Media Council of Latvia for the purchase of diesel generators, which are necessary to ensure the operation of Ukraine’s public television and radio companies.
On Nov. 29, Ukraine’s culture and information policy minister, Oleksandr Tkachenko, asked counterparts in EU member states to provide all possible support for the Ukrainian culture and media sector to help it survive the winter, calling diesel generators a top priority.
