Key highlights of UWC President Grod’s visit to Germany

Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Paul Grod completed his official visit to Germany, where he took part in the 61st Munich Security Conference.

He engaged with international partners to discuss support for Ukraine, security enhancement, and the importance of preserving Ukrainian identity abroad.

The visit was covered by several Ukrainian media outlets.

The UWC President highlighted that civil society in the United States, along with lawmakers from both parties across the bicameral legislature’s aisle, continue to support Ukraine, in an interview for the Ukrainian Yedyni Novyny [United News] national 24-hour newscast.

His comments came amid tensions between Europe and the United States at the high-level yearly conference in Munich.

“There are voices against supporting Ukraine, which we often hear, but the overwhelming majority of the US Congress stands with Ukraine and wants its victory,” Grod said.

Grod added that Ukrainian communities must work diligently every day to ensure this support remains steadfast.

His official visit to southern Germany and participation conference took place from Feb. 14 to 16.

The UWC President participated in the conference’s 6th plenary session, titled “Security in Europe: Religious Dimensions of War and Moral Responsibility for Peace.”

The session focused on the ethical foundations of a new collective security system for Europe.

Grod met with Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Minister Andrii Sybiha to discuss the support for Ukrainian communities worldwide on the sidelines of the conference.

We coordinated efforts to preserve Ukrainian identity, protect our citizens’ rights, and promote unity. We continue joint work to strengthen Ukraine and bring a just peace closer,” said Minister Sybiha.

The UWC President also met with Moldova’s President Maia Sandu to discuss enhancing security in both Ukraine and Moldova, as well as the shared challenges posed by military and hybrid threats from Russia in the region.

Additionally, Grod held a meeting with Minister of National Unity Oleksii Chernyshov, who thanked the UWC for its vital role in supporting Ukrainians abroad and praised the meaningful cooperation with the UWC Mission in Ukraine, led by Andriy Shevchenko.

In Munich, Grod met with Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine at the historic landmark Odeonsplatz square, during a demonstration in support of the conference.

He was joined by Rostyslav Sukennyk, head of the Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Germany, and Volodymyr Kogutyak, UWC Vice President for Western Europe and Association of Ukrainians in France Vice President.

“The future of Ukraine depends on all of us,” Grod said during his speech.

The “No Capitulation” rally drew thousands of rally goers.

Organizers reminded Europeans that defending Ukraine is essential for ensuring Europe’s security, particularly following recent statements from the U.S.

Grod expressed his gratitude to all Ukrainians and their supporters at a public meeting with Ukrainian organizations in Germany.

“You are the driving force that empowers Ukrainian communities worldwide and strengthens the spirit of Ukrainianism,” he said.

In a meeting between Grod and Larysa Didkovska, a Ukrainian scholar and rector of the Ukrainian Free University, they highlighted the importance of Ukrainian culture as a cornerstone of the global Ukrainian community.

As is customary, the UWC delegation also paid tribute to the victims of the Holodomor by participating in a prayer at the Holodomor memorial in Munich.
