Kakhovka HPP: who came to Ukraine’s rescue first

Ukraine’s partner countries announce new aid packages for Ukraine. The support aims to eliminate the consequences of the man-made disaster due to the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP.

France will send 10 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Emmanuel Macron stated this in a telephone conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “The crisis support center of the Ministry of European Affairs and Foreign Affairs (France – ed.) will very quickly send the first convoy of about ten tons of goods requested by the Ukrainians (hygiene products, water purification, portable tanks),” the Elysee Palace reported.

Ukrainians in France joined calls for increased support for Ukraine and thanked Paris for the assistance.

“During our demonstration yesterday, President Macron announced another aid for Ukraine after the terrorist actions by Russia. This valuable help will be able to support many families and animals who are in the most difficult situations today. The Association of Ukrainians in France continues to fight for an increase in this aid, especially from such international organizations as the Red Cross,” the vice president of the Association of Ukrainians in France, Volodymyr Kogutyak, said.

The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Denmark will also send humanitarian aid to those affected in Kherson Oblast. The packages include two powerful pumps, 35 tents for accommodation, three small boats with transport rafts and a large generator. The total amount provided is 2.5 million Danish kroner (335 thousand euros). The State Emergency Service of Ukraine will receive the cargo on Saturday, June 10.

“A significant part of Ukraine is in a terrible situation, and we must do everything possible to help Ukrainians,” Acting Minister of Defense of Denmark, Troels Lund Poulsen, said.

Copenhagen will also send five tanker trucks to Ukraine to collect and transport water from flooded areas in Kherson Oblast and several generators.

The UN will help evacuate citizens from flooded areas of Kherson Oblast occupied by Russia. These are residents of the left bank of the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported.

“The Sides agreed that the UN units will go to the affected areas in the temporarily occupied territories from the Ukraine-controlled territories as soon as Russia provides access and security guarantees. Currently, the United Nations is awaiting the guarantees from the Russian side and access to the occupied territories affected by the blowing up of the Kakhovka HPP dam,” the ministry explained.

The EU also announced assistance to Ukraine to overcome the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP. European countries provide Ukraine with pumps for dirty water, fire hoses, mobile water purification stations, and boats.

“We stand by Ukraine as long as it takes,” Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, concluded.
