In the third airstrike in less than a week, yesterday’s overnight Israeli raid hit again production and logistics facilities for Iranian weapons around Damascus in Syria, according to media reports.
The Israeli strikes target “weapons and ammunition depots and bases housing Iranian-backed groups a few kilometers from Damascus International Airport,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.
The Watchman is more specific, saying that “Israel targeted Iranian weapons factories, apparently a drone assembly factory.” As Russia’s advanced S-300 air defense systems were removed out of Syria and repositioned in Ukraine, “perhaps, Israel sees this as a golden opportunity to really push Iran back [from Syria],” according to The Watchman.
“Israeli strikes have continued in Syrian airspace, which is largely controlled by Russia, even as Jerusalem’s ties with Moscow have deteriorated in recent months. Israel has found itself at odds with Russia as it has increasingly supported Ukraine while seeking to maintain freedom of movement in Syria’s skies,” according to The Times of Israel.
