IIEC to host international symposium on Ukrainian education abroad

The International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations (IIEC/MIOK) is hosting an international symposium on March 21 in Lviv and online.

Titled “Ukrainian Education Abroad: Mission and Vision,” the event will be held under the patronage of the UWC’s International Educational Coordinating Council (IECC).

Participants will discuss the challenges of preserving the national identity of Ukrainians living abroad, including how to maintain connections with Ukraine, support Ukrainian-language schools overseas, and ensure that Ukrainian children remain engaged with the global Ukrainian community.

Lyuba Lyubchyk, UWC’s IECC Chair, will take part in discussions, alongside officials from Ukraine’s Education Ministry, along with activists, and scholars.

“The panel discussion, featuring prominent speakers, will focus on education’s role in preserving and strengthening Ukrainian national identity among children abroad,”  the organizers said. “It will also explore the future of Ukrainian schooling abroad and the role of Ukraine’s government and society in supporting this educational direction.”

The event will also present findings from a study called, “Ukrainian Saturday and Sunday Schools Abroad: Responding to the Challenges of War,” based on surveys of Ukrainian school leaders in the UK, Spain, Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

The in-person event will be held at the main campus building of the Lviv Polytechnic National University. Online registration is available via this link.
