How South Korea will help Ukraine: Yoon Suk Yeol’s historic visit

On July 15, Yoon Suk Yeol, President of South Korea, paid an unannounced visit to Ukraine. The Korean leader visited the place of mass murders in Bucha and Irpin near Kyiv. In addition, he laid a wreath at the monument to the military.

“The very important visit, very important cooperation, very important joint protection of security. I am grateful to President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee for negotiations, interaction, and joint work between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea for saving people’s lives and humanity,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote.

The country’s leader and his first lady, Kim Keon Hee, arrived in Kyiv from Poland. In Warsaw, Yoon Suk Yeol met with Andrzej Duda. According to the meeting results, the presidents signed an agreement on cooperation in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

“We agreed that South Korea and Poland can be ideal partners in reconstructing Ukraine. I am sure that the agreement on the reconstruction of Ukraine, which was signed today, will be the foundation of joint actions,” Yoon Suk Yeol said.

South Korea, among other things, will offer reconstruction projects worth USD 52 billion to Ukraine. “In May, Ukraine submitted a request through the intergovernmental cooperation channel for the participation of South Korean companies in approximately 5,000 construction projects worth USD 20 billion,” Choi Sang-mok, South Korea’s senior presidential secretary for economic affairs, said.

The arrival in Kyiv was the first-ever visit of the leader of South Korea to Ukraine and also completed a two-day trip during which the country’s leader visited Lithuania for the NATO Summit and then Poland on an official visit.
