Ukraine’s National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide has officially shared plans for a new section of its upcoming exhibition. The International Charitable Foundation of the Holodomor Museum provided the initial artistic concept for the main display of the second phase. A ceremony featuring government officials, public figures, and religious leaders, all of whom contributed to the development of the concept, marked the occasion.
“The project of creating the Holodomor Museum is global and requires the unification and coordination of efforts from both the state and the public, with active participation from both Ukrainian society and the global Ukrainian diaspora. The issue of the Holodomor has always been and remains a priority for the Ukrainian World Congress, especially now when attempts to commit genocide against the Ukrainian people have persisted,” said Serhiy Kasyanchuk, Director of the UWC Mission to Ukraine.
Lesia Hasydzhak, the Acting Director General of the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide, revealed that the introductory artistic concept for the new museum’s exhibit offers a detailed preview of the display, which will span nearly 4,000 square meters. She noted that the exhibition merges a deep artistic perspective with the stark reality of the tragedy.
Collaboration between the public and the state on matters such as preserving the memory of the Holodomor-Genocide is extremely important, believes His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, who attended the handover ceremony.
“I believe this is key to understanding today’s event. The state has an obligation to honor its citizens, particularly those who became victims of this Holodomor-Genocide. However, the state cannot monopolize the commemoration of these victims. Ordinary people, regular Ukrainians, should also have the opportunity to participate in this nationwide noble cause,” he said.
Honoring the victims of the Holodomor is a moral obligation for every Ukrainian, emphasized His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
The exhibition’s introductory concept was created by an international project team consisting of specialists from Nizio Design International (Poland) and Haley Sharpe Design LTD (United Kingdom) and financed by donations from philanthropists in Ukraine and around the world.
