France promises more military support for Ukraine based on a “common agenda”

France’s Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu promised more military support for Kyiv on Wednesday, Euronews reported.

On his first visit to the country, Lecornu met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov.

The French minister said Paris wants to work with Ukraine to find a “common agenda” on how France can support the war effort, according to France 24. Presidents Zelensky and Macron have requested proposals for a “common agenda on French military support for the month of January,” Lecornu said at a press conference with Reznikov.

He added there had been discussions on the “tactical and strategic situation” on the ground, as well as the needs of the Ukrainian army in the coming weeks.

Another topic discussed by Lecornu and Reznikov was the problem of repairing the Western-made military equipment damaged on battlefields. “The maintenance of what has already been transferred to Ukraine is as important as new equipment,” Evropeyska Pravda quoted Lecornu as saying.

He also told reporters about an “innovative fund of 200 million euros” that allows Ukraine to buy equipment directly from French manufacturers.”

“Was glad to host my French colleague and great friend Sébastien Lecornu in Kyiv,” Reznikov wrote on Twitter. “This visit is not only an act of bravery; it also demonstrates strong French support, weapons and ammo supplies for the Ukrainian Army will be continued, including great French-made systems for the protection of our land and skies.”
