A memorial concert commemorating the victims of the 1932-1933 Holodomor was broadcast on RadioW Brasil for the first time in the Brazilian state of Paraná, as reported by Vitório Sorotiuk, President of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation (UBCR).
The event was organized by the Barvinok Ukrainian folk ensemble, with UBCR’s support. This marked the fifth performance dedicated to honoring the memory of those who perished in the man-made famine in Ukraine. Barvinok had previously performed in Curitiba, among other locations.
“The concert is vital for remembering key events in Ukraine’s modern history. We must continue to speak about the Holodomor to ensure such atrocities never happen again,” said the organizers.

UBCR has long been working to raise awareness of the Holodomor within Brazilian society. In 2022, the Federal Senate of Brazil officially recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.
In 2009, the Ukrainian community in Curitiba unveiled a memorial monument to the victims of the Holodomor.
