Russia is intensifying its airborne attacks on Ukrainian cities despite the peace process initiated by the U.S.
Russia launched a barrage of 117 drones overnight on March 26, targeting two of Ukraine’s five most populous cities – Dnipro in the southeast and Kharkiv in the northeast, striking key urban centers amid ongoing tensions.
The attack occurred just a day after the latest round of peace negotiations in Saudi Arabia concluded.
In Dnipro, three civilians were injured, and more than 10 high-rise buildings, businesses, an educational facility, and dozens of vehicles were damaged in the attack. Multiple fires broke out across the city. Firefighters swiftly extinguished the flames, and efforts to clear the aftermath of the attacks are still ongoing.
Russian forces also targeted the Dnipropetrovsk region, specifically the Nikopol district, hitting the district center as well as the Pokrovsk, Marhanets, and Chervonohryhorivka population centers. A 30-year-old woman was injured, and several apartment buildings, homes, infrastructure, a gas station, and vehicles were damaged.
Dnipro has become a sanctuary for displaced people from occupied areas and a key military hub, providing treatment and rehabilitation for defenders, since Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Hospital facilities there are some of the most advanced in the country, having provided trauma care for wounded soldiers since Russia’s initial invasion in 2014 from which medical staff and doctors have gained valuable expertise.
Twelve civilians were injured, including two children, on the same night during an aerial Russian attack on Kharkiv, resulting in eight strikes and four fires.
“The largest fire, covering 2,500 square meters, broke out at an industrial production facility. In addition, warehouses and vehicles were also damaged by the flames,” Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported.
The invaders have not stopped targeting the border areas: they shelled the northeastern Sumy region overnight on March 27. Firefighters extinguished four fires, and a civilian male was rescued from under the rubble in the Krasnopillia community.
Russia attacks civilian areas of Ukrainian cities and villages on a daily basis. The Ukrainian World Congress publishes news on the largest shelling incidents. More detailed information on the consequences of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, read the Victory Chronicles.
