The English-language Ukrainian publication Kyiv Independent has launched a new project on YouTube called Dare to Ukraine. Host Mariya Lavrova traverses various regions of Ukraine, exploring local culture, architecture, cuisine, popular activities, people, and their daily lives.
The inaugural episode dedicated to discovering Lviv premiered on Aug. 31, with upcoming episodes set to explore Kyiv, Odesa, and the Carpathian Mountains. In total, the series will consist of six episodes.
“A year ago, I followed my heart and made a bold decision to move back to Ukraine after spending 8 years abroad, searching for a place that felt like home,” Lavrova said. “Little did I know, the home I was searching for was the one I had left behind. During the first month back an idea struck me: what if I created a show about rediscovering my own country?”
The video project endeavors to show the real Ukraine to the world – its history, culture, and contemporary life that continues even amid war. The show also focuses on the impact of Russian aggression on Ukrainian cities and communities, emphasizing the country’s resilience in the face of destruction.
“Our show goes beyond the war, offering a genuine glimpse into Ukraine’s history, culture, nature, businesses, and people,” said Toma Istomina, deputy chief editor at the Kyiv Independent.
