European Parliament calls for allowing Ukraine to use Western weapons on targets inside Russia

The European Parliament has urged EU countries to lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western weapons for strikes on military targets on Russian territory. The resolution was adopted on September 19, with 425 MEPs in favor, 131 against, and 63 abstentions.

Without the lifting of current restrictions, Ukraine cannot fully exercise its right to self-defense and remains vulnerable to attacks on its population and infrastructure, emphasized the European Parliament.

Insufficient deliveries of ammunition and restrictions on their use risks offsetting the impact of efforts made to date, and deplores the declining volume of bilateral military aid to Ukraine by EU countries,” the resolution states.

MEPs once again called on member states to fulfill their commitment to supply Ukraine with one million shells, as well as to accelerate the delivery of weapons, air defense systems, and ammunition, including Taurus missiles.

All EU countries and NATO allies should collectively and individually commit to annual military support for Ukraine militarily of no less than 0.25% of their GDP,” the EP concluded.

On September 20, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Kyiv for a visit. “My 8th visit to Kyiv comes as the heating season starts soon, and Russia keeps targeting energy infrastructure. We will help Ukraine in its brave efforts,” she wrote.
