EU defense commissioner: Putin openly mocks the US

Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin is “openly mocking Americans,” according to European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius, as reported by LRT, Lithuania’s public broadcaster.

“We see the U.S. trying to negotiate a peace deal. Sometimes it seems they simply need to go through Putin’s lessons to fully grasp who he really is,” Kubilius said.

He believes that U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration is gradually shifting its approach – from bold, impulsive actions to a “deeper understanding of reality.”

Kublius added that “this will lead to the realization that not everything can be achieved with a brash approach like, ‘We’ll quickly find common ground, offer Putin good relations, and that’ll be the end of it.’”

He also said that public disagreements between the U.S. and Europe have, paradoxically, strengthened transatlantic relations.

“Europeans have grown frustrated in response to U.S. actions, but that frustration has led to more unity and a stronger push for leadership,” he said.

He added that emotions are running high in U.S.-European relations, but the division of responsibility for security is “natural and inevitable – it will continue to evolve.”

Meanwhile, Trump’s rhetoric toward Russia has recently shifted, European Pravda reports. The U.S. president claimed that the Kremlin has a “psychological deadline” – a point by which it must agree to a full ceasefire in Ukraine.

“On Sunday [March 30], Trump said he was ‘very angry, furious’ with Putin for discussing temporary leadership in Ukraine. He also warned that if Moscow refuses to negotiate and end its military actions, the U.S. will impose additional sanctions on Russian oil,” journalists said.
