Dobriansky on chances of bipartisan support for Ukraine after Trump’s victory

Long-standing political relationships present the Ukrainian community with an opportunity to secure bipartisan support for Ukraine during another Donald Trump presidency, stated Andrij Dobriansky, director of communications at the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America.

“It’s crucial that the Ukrainian community remains active. This isn’t just about the presidential elections, but also about Congressional and Senate races,” he told Ukraine’s 24/7 newscast in an interview.

Ukrainians need direct relationships with politicians at every level, starting locally, Dobriansky said.

“In most states, there are activists who have built long-term relationships with local officials – they may personally know mayors or senators, having worked or studied with them,” Dobriansky said.

He highlighted the significant potential for bipartisan support for Ukraine.

“This kind of long-term collaboration is essential for ensuring consistent bipartisan backing for Ukraine,” he said.

Dobriansky also pointed out that Trump’s campaign rhetoric doesn’t always translate into action.

“Trump is a unique figure, and he can often forget campaign promises and act differently,” he said.

Thus, the Ukrainian community must keep Ukraine on the political agenda, Dobriansky stressed.

“When Trump first became president, we, like many Americans and people worldwide, were surprised by his approach. He can change his mind in a day. That’s why it’s vital for Ukrainian activists and supporters to stay in regular contact with him, maintain ongoing dialogue, and keep those connections strong,” he concluded.
