86% of Ukrainians believe that Zelenskyy is an effective Supreme Commander-in-Chief

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the number of Ukrainians considering President Volodymyr Zelenskyy an effective Supreme Commander-in-Chief has increased 2.5 times and now stands at 86%. This is results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology on 26 May – 5 June. “After the large-scale invasion, Ukrainians have radically changed their views and now 86% believe that Volodymyr Zelenskyy is working effectively as commander-in-chief.” Sociologists have noted that respondents were asked a similar question in November 2021 and January 2022. At that time, only 36% and 32% of respondents believed that Zelenskyy could work effectively as the supreme commander-in-chief and organize the country’s defense.

Explosions rang out on bridges between Kherson Oblast and Crimea. At night, unknown assailants fired at bridges on the administrative border between the Kherson Oblast and Crimea near Chonhar. Commenting on the damage to the Chonhar Bridge, Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR), stated that this is just a part of an ongoing systematic operation and suggested that such events will continue in the future.

Video of the Day

Under Bakhmut, Special Operations Forces warriors rescued wounded infantrymen. While performing a combat mission, a Special Operations Forces unit engaged in fire contact with the enemy. At the same time, troops from one of the Defense Forces’ infantry units were also in the area. During the battle, several infantrymen were wounded. The Special Operations Forces operators provided first aid to the wounded and evacuated them to a safe zone.

ISW report

Ukrainian forces conducted counteroffensive operations on at least three front sectors on June 21. Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar stated on June 21 that Ukrainian troops had partial success during offensive operations in the Bilohorivka-Shypylivka direction (about 10km south of Kreminna in Luhansk Oblast). A Russian milblogger also claimed that Ukrainian forces were counterattacking in the south and west of Kreminna. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Ukrainian forces continued offensive operations in the western Donetsk-eastern Zaporizhzhia Oblast border area on the Vilne Pole-Makarivka line, and Russian milbloggers continued to discuss Ukrainian attacks in this area, particularly south of Velyka Novosilka.

Ukrainian and Russian sources reported that Ukrainian troops continued offensive operations in western Zaporizhzhia Oblast, both south and southwest of Orikhiv, and that Russian forces were counterattacking to regain lost positions in this direction. Russian sources noted a relatively slower pace of Ukrainian offensive operations in western Donetsk and western Zaporizhzhia oblasts than in previous days.

War Heroes

In Lviv, a farewell was held for the Ukrainian defender Igor Dashko, who blew himself up with a grenade to avoid being captured. The border guard died a year ago in Mariupol. He was covering the retreat of his fellow fighters to reserve positions during an attempt by the enemy to break through the defense. The defender was severely injured. He detonated a grenade to prevent the enemy from capturing the radio station and avoid being captured himself. The last words of Igor were heard over the radio: “Glory to Ukraine!” The warrior was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and the military rank of Colonel. Streets in Sambir, Khmelnytskyi, and Lviv have been named in honor of Igor Dashko.
