On Wednesday, the Czech Parliament’s upper house, Senate, recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Twitter thanked the Senate for this decision.
“I welcome the decision of the Czech Senate to recognize the Holodomor as a genocide of Ukrainians. I am grateful to our Czech friends for affirming the truth and restoring historical justice. Punishment for all the past and present crimes of Russia is inevitable,” Zelensky said.
“Grateful to our Czech friends for commemorating millions of victims of this Soviet crime and restoring historical justice. Justice for past and current Russian crimes is inevitable,” Kuleba tweeted.
The lower chamber of the Czech Parliament unanimously voted to recognize the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-33 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people on April 6, 2022.
