‘Coalition of the Willing’ names 4 key goals for Ukraine’s ‘reassurance force,’ but key questions remain

The “Coalition of the Willing,” a coalition of around 30 countries that support Ukraine, has outlined four primary objectives for a “reassurance force” that seeks to ensure Ukraine’s long-term security.

According to UK Defense Minister John Healey, these goals include bolstering air defense, securing maritime routes, maintaining peace on the ground, and reinforcing the Ukrainian army, as reported by European Pravda.

“Our plans are well-developed, and we have clear goals for Ukraine,” Healey said on April 10 at the Brussels headquarters of NATO, adding that the coalition’s focus is on establishing lasting peace for Ukraine.

To achieve these objectives, the coalition is planning to deploy a reassurance force – a future military mission whose structure is still under discussion.

“Our security guarantee forces for Ukraine will become a decisive and reliable element of the security system, ensuring that any peace reached through negotiations will deliver the lasting peace that President Trump promised for Ukraine,” Healey said.

The participating nations discussed military and operational planning, as well as how to ensure full readiness once a peace agreement is reached.

“We are intensifying our efforts. We are serious. We are sending a message to President Putin, Minister Umerov, and the Ukrainian people: we stand with you in the fight, and we will stand with you in peace,” the minister said.

The coalition is also developing plans to send a mission to Ukraine to help guarantee a potential future ceasefire.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph reports that the UK is considering the possibility of deploying its troops to Ukraine for up to five years, according to discussions among allies.

This move seeks to assist in the preparation and rebuilding of the Ukrainian army to prevent a new Russian invasion.

Allies are exploring various options for troop deployment. In France, officials believe that Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin is unlikely to attack Western forces in Ukraine, as his own military is struggling on the front lines.

Forces led by France and the UK could also assist in protecting Ukraine’s airspace and maritime borders. However, the main priority remains to swiftly support the training and rebuilding of Ukraine’s military forces in preparation for a potential new Russian offensive, journalists report.
