Chopyk on Spanish TV: Trump must understand that Putin cannot be trusted

U.S. President Donald Trump needs to understand that Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin cannot be trusted, and, moreover, negotiating with him is out of the question, said Yuri Chopyk, head of the Ukrainian community of Spain for the Rights, Honor, and Dignity of Ukrainians, in an interview on the “LA ROCA” political program.

“Trump could fall into Putin’s trap,” Chopyk said.

He stressed that the West must stand united in supporting Ukraine and must push back against Russian propaganda.

“While Europe is actively helping, the situation remains incredibly difficult. However, without the support of the United States, Ukraine’s struggle will become much harder,” Chopyk said.

Putin is a wanted war criminal, according to the International Criminal Court in The Hague based on an arrest warrant issued in March 2023 and for specifically unlawfully deporting Ukrainian children. 

In his interview, Chopyk also called on the global community to recognize that Ukraine is fighting for the values of the entire democratic world.

“We, Ukrainians, are certain that this war must end, and we are committed to bringing it to a close. We are paying for it with the blood and lives of our youth and soldiers,” he said, stressing that a just peace is essential.
