Canada is implementing a new sanction package against Russia, including Russia-based Volga-Dnepr airlines, which operates a fleet of An-124s “Ruslan,” Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported on Sunday.
“A new package of sanctions against Russia from Canada. In particular, against the Volga-Dnepr company. We are in anticipation of confiscating the AN-124 aircraft and other assets of the aggressor in Canada and transferring them to Ukraine,” Shmyhal wrote in a post.
Earlier, a district court in Kyiv ruled to seize all 12 An-124s operated by the Russian company and sent the ruling to competent bodies in relevant jurisdictions, according to Ukrainska Pravda. As a result, Canada prohibited one “Ruslan” from leaving the country. Germany imposed a similar restriction against three such planes.
