Canada is set to announce new restrictive measures against Russia in response to the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children from temporarily occupied territories, according to Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly. She made this statement after the Peace Formula Conference in Montreal, as reported by CBC.
“Yesterday, a representative from the United States revealed new sanctions against Russia, primarily concerning the deported children. We are currently coordinating our sanctions efforts with the U.S. and the European Union,” Joly said, as noted by Ukrinform.
Ottawa is committed to maintaining “maximum pressure” on Russia, Joly added. Canada is also working to persuade other nations of the necessity for Ukraine to strike targets within Russia using long-range weapons.
“We support Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons against targets in Russia, as this is essential for its self-defense. We are also trying to convince other countries to adopt this position,” the foreign minister stated.
The leadership of the Ukrainian World Congress and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) participated in the Peace Formula Conference that was held on Oct. 30-31.
