Law students of the University of São Paulo – one of the most prestigious Brazilian universities – during a test lesson simulation of the activities of the UN International Court of Justice “sentenced” Russia. The future experts of Brazil condemned the Russian Federation for the crime of genocide against the Ukrainian people, Vitório Sorotiuk, President of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation (RCUB), said.
“Students of the “International Law” class at the School of Law of the University of São Paulo, coordinated by Professor Wagner Menezes, faced a serious challenge during a trial lesson on the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” the law school explained.
The training was realistic because the students went through all the available stages of the law enforcement process.
“It started with the initial accusations, going through the interventions of a coalition of several countries, such as Italy, Portugal, Spain, Finland, and New Zealand; USA, Germany, Canada, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland; [moved to] the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations and the Convention on the Prevention of the Crime of Genocide and its Punishment; [ended] with the jurisdiction of the Court,” the website of the educational institution says.
Future lawyers also discussed the principles of self-determination, good faith, sovereignty, territorial integrity, genocide, the issue of intent to commit genocide, and the definition of a protected group.
Finally, after analyzing all the details, the law students refuted Russia’s accusations that Ukraine committed unlawful actions in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In addition, “the Russian Federation was found guilty” of the “crime of genocide against the Ukrainian people by interfering in the territory of Ukraine for the forced transfer of Ukrainian children to re-education camps, subjecting them to forced assimilation, depriving them of the preservation and development of their own cultural and ethnic identity.”
