Argentina ‘firmly condemns’ Russian aggression against Ukraine, says UWC Vice President

The Argentinian government has “firmly condemned” Russian aggression against Ukraine at the Conference of Defense Ministers in the Americas on Oct. 16, according to Jorge Danylyshyn, UWC Vice President for South America and president of the Prosvita Ukrainian Cultural Society.

“This position was expressed before all the defense ministers of the Americas,” Danylyshyn said. “I believe this is a significant step, especially considering the uncertainty among other South American countries.”

Argentina strongly supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity, which is “extremely important for Kyiv,” added the UWC Vice President.

“This is undoubtedly positive news and a significant achievement. The issue of condemning Russian aggression was one of the main topics during the visit of UWC President Paul Grod to Buenos Aires,” Danylyshyn said.

In his closing speech at the conference, Argentine Defense Minister Luis Alfonso Petrí emphasized the need to “continue expressing our position against the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” the government reported.

“Argentina has always been and will remain a resolute defender of territorial integrity – a fundamental principle that will define our actions,” the minister said.

The Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas is a multilateral defense forum for 34 member countries.

This year, representatives from Brazil, Canada, Chile, the Bahamas, Colombia, Belize, Ecuador, the United States, Guatemala, Haiti, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Suriname, Uruguay, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, France, and Portugal participated in the event.

In July, Argentina pledged weapons for Ukraine, as reported by Polskie Radio. In August, the UWC President undertook an important mission to South America to draw attention to Ukraine’s ongoing struggle for independence amid Russia’s genocidal war.
