Address by the UWC President on Ukraine’s Independence Day

Dear Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine!

On this 33rd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, the 65-million-strong Ukrainian nation and its allies have one main objective: victory against Russia’s invasion and achieving a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

Russia wages war against Ukraine on all fronts — daily rocket and missile attacks on Ukraine’s cities killing innocent civilians, abducting and indoctrinating Ukrainian children, sowing doubt in Ukraine’s victory among her allies, spreading lies and disinformation, and trying to convincethe world that Ukraine and Ukrainians never existed.

Today, we must deliver a decisive global response in support of Ukraine’s right to self-determination, freedom, and peace. We must motivate the civilized world to become even more active in supporting Ukraine.  There can be no such thing as a neutral country when genocide is being committed by Russia.

Let us support Ukraine in defeating Russia: spread the truth, participate in the civic and political life of your countries, picket Russian embassies and institutions, as well as the businesses that finance Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Let us strengthen Ukrainian communities around the world. From churches to schools, festivals to youth organizations, representation in global parliaments, business and investments, higher education, cultural and medical diplomacy, among others.

In honor of Ukraine’s Independence Day and her brave struggle for independence – please be generous in your donations to the Ukrainian World Congress –  Unite With Ukraine initiative and global advocacy work. Every donation brings Ukraine closer to victory and helps save the lives of Ukrainian defenders.
