A rally in Chicago: “9/11 is every day in Ukraine”

On July 24, about 350 people rallied in Chicago, IL, demanding that the United States proclaim russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, increase weapons supply to defend Ukraine, and save Ukrainian children. The march, organized by Ukrainian-American women with assistance from UCCA Illinois Division, started at Water Tower and proceeded on Michigan Avenue to Millennium Park. It “culminated with a powerful dramatic performance when to the sound of sirens and then three strong sounds of bombs falling, over 100 young women fell to the ground,” according to a Facebook post by Marta Farion, member of the UWC Board of Directors and Vice-president of the UCCA-Illinois.

The marchers carried with them photos of children killed by russia, toys, and stuffed animals painted in red paint symbolizing the blood of innocents. Passing cars honked in support as people on the streets applauded and waved.

In a poster the organizers published before the event, they compared the barbaric strikes by the russians at Ukrainian cities with the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, pointing out that “9/11 is every day in Ukraine.”

“If ruzzian terrorism is not going be stopped in Ukraine, who will be the next victim?” the poster also reads.
