A group of Belarus “rail guerillas” sentenced to huge terms

The Gomel Oblast Court of Belarus on Tuesday convicted three Svietlahorsk residents of setting fire to a railroad signal box in order to slow down the delivery of Russian military materiel to the Ukrainian border on Feb. 28, 2022, Gomelskaya Viasna reported.

Dzyanis Dzikun, Aleg Malchanav and Dzmitry Ravich were sentenced in camera to 23, 21 and 22 years of enhanced regime imprisonment, respectively.

They were detained on March 4 and charged with terrorism, intentional damage to vehicles or means of communication, treason and creating an extremist formation or participating in it.

On Mar. 21, human rights activists recognized them as political prisoners.

On Nov. 24, the European Parliament adopted a resolution “On the continuing repression of the democratic opposition and civil society in Belarus,” in which the names of the three were used as examples of repression in connection with Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
