80th Victory in Europe day commemoration to be held by AUGB in London

LONDON – The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) has announced a commemorative event at St. James’s Church in London to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory over Germans Nazis in World War II.

A central feature of the event will be the blessing of a stained glass window, honoring the charitable work of St. James’s Church and “to those of Ukrainian descent who served and made the ultimate sacrifice serving under the British Flag during World War II, and to the survivors who helped to resettle tens of thousands of displaced Ukrainians after the war.”

The event will also include an evening liturgical service, scheduled for May 8 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. local time.

The Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Foundation, the AUGB, and St. James’s Church worked together to install the stained glass window. Dr Lubomyr Luciuk conceived the idea for the window, and Glenn Carter created its unique design.

The stained glass symbolizes the sacrifice and unity of the Ukrainian community, which, despite being far from its homeland due to the war, has never lost its identity, the AUGB said.

At the event, Ukrainians in the UK will honor those who “selflessly served others during World War II, and to remember their legacy and the impact they had on us all.”

We look forward to seeing you!” the AUGB said.
