Mirai Shiraishi, a 10-year-old volunteer from Japan, arrived in Ukraine. The girl wants to support children who suffered because of the war, the Zakarpattia Oblast Military Administration reports.

“Her mission to support Ukrainian children who suffered because of the war, she [Mirai Shiraishi] started from Transcarpathia. … a volunteer from Japan will visit different cities of Ukraine and talk to those whose childhood was destroyed by the cursed war,” Oblast Military Administration added.

In Uzhhorod, Mirai Shiraishi met gymnast Oleksandra Pascal, who lost her leg last year due to the Russian shelling of Zatoka in Odesa Oblast. The Japanese volunteer said that she immediately decided to help Oleksandra and started selling her drawings on the streets of her hometown of Osaka. Mirai raised USD 645 for a prosthesis for the gymnast.

The girls work together on the A child’s view of a non-child’s war project. The initiative supports Ukrainian children who have experienced physical or psychological trauma.

The Japanese volunteer plans to visit different parts of Ukraine and present war victims with crane-shaped origami – Japanese symbols of peace.
