NEWSLETTER UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS № 2 (30) –February, 2006 OUR
GRATITUDE FOR FINANCIAL SUPPORT
We would
like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to
Ukrainian
financial institutions in the United States and Canada for the major
support
they provided in the last month of 2005. As of November 30, 2005 we were
looking at a shortfall of 100,000 Can$. However, in December we
received such
substantial amounts: 10,000 US$ from each the Heritage Foundation and
Self
Reliance (N.Y.) FCU, as well as 5,000 US$ from Selfreliance Ukrainian
American
FCU and 5,000 Can$ from the Buduchnist Credit Union Limited based in
Toronto as
well as smaller contributions. Other financial institutional
contributors of
1,000 US or Can $ or more in the last month were: Cleveland
Selfreliance FCU,
Ukrainian Credit Union in Toronto, Caisse Populaire Desjardins
Ukrainieene De
Monteral, Self Reliance (NJ) FCU, Ukrainian Selfreliance FCU
(Philadelphia),
SUMA (Yonkers)FCU and St. Josaphat’s Parish (Toronto) Credit Union
(Limited). Furthermore, last year saw
our big three member organizations; the Ukrainian Canadian Congress,
the
Ukrainian Congress Committee of America and the Ukrainian American
Coordinating
Council meet their commitment to the UWC in full. As a result we were
able to
meet our revenue budget at 99.54%, which resulted in a surplus (revenue
over
expenses) of more than 40,000Can$. Thank you all.
UWC
REGISTERS WITH UKRAINE’S CENTRAL ELECTION COMMISSION
The
UWC’s registration with Ukraine’s CEC has been confirmed which permits
the UWC
to sponsor international election observers. Additionally, two of our
member
organizations the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) and
the
Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) have registered with the CEC. The
UCCA has
received a US government aid for $50,000 to conduct a civic education
program
during the election period. Anyone interested in serving as an
international
election observer during the elections either in Ukraine or at any of
the
polling stations abroad may register with anyone of the three
aforementioned
organizations. The UWC is attempting to procure some funding for
election
observers from our eastern communities.
UWC
DELEGATION TO THE UNITED NATIONS NEW YORK HEADQUARTERS The
UWC has designated its President, Askold S. Lozynskyj as the main
representative to the United Nations’ New York headquarters with Andrew
Lastowecky, Ihor Dlaboha, Roksolana Luchkan and Borys Potapenko as
additional
representatives. We are currently seeking representatives to both the
Geneva
and Vienna offices. Anyone interested should contact the UWC President
directly
at Askold@verizon.net. UKRAINIANS
IN MOZAMBIQUE
Since
November 2004 we have established a continuous line of communication
with an
existent but still to be organized community in Mozambique. Our contact
there
has been Dmytro Yatsyuk who has established a blog at http://ucrania-mozambique.blogspot.com.
According to Mr. Yatsyuk there
are
approximately 400-700 Ukrainians in Mozambique. Anyone interested in
contacting
Mr. Jatsyuk may do so at dmytromz@mail.com.
