UWC welcomes another step in visa liberalisation for Ukrainian citizens
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the announcement on 15 May 2013 that the liberalisation of visas for Ukrainian citizens travelling to European Union member states will come into effect on 1 July 2013.
Amendments to the Agreement between the European Community and Ukraine on the facilitation of the issuance of visas was ratified by the European Parliament on 18 April 2013.
“This will be an important factor in strengthening Ukraine’s Euro-integration process and another clear signal that the European Union is truly welcoming Ukrainian citizens into the European community,” said UWC President Eugene Czolij.

UWC welcomes liberalization of visa agreement with Ukraine
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the ratification by the European Parliament on 18 April 2013 of the amendments to the Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine on the facilitation of the issuance of visas.
The Ukrainian World Congress has repeatedly called for the EU to adopt a visa-free regime for the citizens of Ukraine in order to foster travel by Ukrainians to Europe, enhance ties between Europe and the Ukrainian people, and promote Ukraine’s Euro-integration.
The European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, in its Opinion on the amended Agreement, stated that it is also “… a clear signal towards the Ukrainian citizens that the EU is seriously committed to strengthen its partnership with the Ukrainian society and to further develop and facilitate people-to-people contacts, in line with the renewed European Neighbourhood Policy.” |

Ukrainian World Congress supports visa liberalisation for citizens of Ukraine
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) supports the recommendation made on 22 January 2013 by the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs to introduce amendments to liberalise the visa agreement with Ukraine.
UWC President Eugene Czolij sent a letter today to leaders of the European Union (EU) reaffirming that a visa-free regime for the citizens of Ukraine will foster travel by Ukrainians to Europe, strengthen ties between Europe and the Ukrainian people, and promote Ukraine's Euro-integration.

UWC supports criticism of Language Bill by OSCE High Commissioner Knut Vollebaek
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) has expressed its support for comments made by Knut Vollebaek, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) High Commissioner on National Minorities, during his most recent trip to Ukraine, regarding the Draft Law on the Principles of State Language Policy.
On July 26, 2012, the OSCE High Commissioner affirmed that "The disproportionate favouring of the Russian language, while also removing most incentives for learning or using Ukrainian in large parts of the country, could potentially undermine Ukraine's very cohesion”.

UWC appeals to international community to demand the immediate release of opposition leader Yuriy Lutsenko
On July 6, 2012, based on the unanimous judgment rendered on July 3, 2012 by the European Court of Human Rights in the case of Lutsenko v. Ukraine, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij appealed to international leaders to demand that Ukrainian authorities release opposition leader Yuriy Lutsenko immediately, and lift any prohibition barring him from participating in the October 2012 Parliamentary elections.
In that judgment, the Court clearly describes the violations committed by the Ukrainian authorities of their legal obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights, which was ratified by Ukraine in 1997.

Diaspora Ukrainian Communities Protest Attempt by the National Institute for Strategic Studies to Marginalize the UWC
Ukrainian communities from over 26 countries have already protested the recommendation of the National Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Ukraine that the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) be treated “at best, as a representative of only a specific segment, or more accurately, certain circles of the Ukrainian diaspora.”
In addition, Ukrainian communities have highlighted their cooperation with the UWC and its long‑standing dedication to the development of Ukrainian community life in the diaspora, its work toward the establishment of an independent Ukrainian state and its defense of the rights of Ukrainians wherever they reside.
