Ukrainian World Congress appoints leadership of International Election Observer Mission for Parliamentary Elections in Ukraine
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) announces the appointment of the leadership of its International Election Observer Mission to the parliamentary elections in Ukraine on 26 October 2014.
The Mission will be headed by UWC Third Vice President Peter Sztyk and the Chief Observer will be Olena Koszarny, member of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Advisory Board. 
Ukrainian World Congress welcomes ratification of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement by the European Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the simultaneous ratification on 16 September 2014 of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement by the European Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
This historic moment was a concrete realization of the will of the Ukrainian people and a decisive step in the European development of Ukraine, including its accession into the European Union.

“The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon all member states of the EU that have not yet ratified the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement to do so before the end of 2014 and thereby help accelerate Ukraine’s full Euro-integration,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) has lauched a search for a Director of the UWC Ukraine Mission based in Kyiv.
The UWC is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual who will manage all aspects of UWC’s activities in Ukraine.

10-14 September 2014 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij held a series of meetings in Berlin, specifically with Members of the Bundestag (German Parliament) and other high-ranking German officials to whom he appealed for continued support for Ukraine in defense of its independence and sovereignty.

Ukrainian World Congress concludes Annual General Meeting in Kyiv
On 29-31 August 2014 at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) held its Annual General Meeting with over 100 participants from over 15 countries in attendance, including prominent religious, political and community representatives from both the diaspora and Ukraine.

Between 28 August and 2 September 2014, in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) in Kyiv, UWC President Eugene Czolij, together with the leadership of the UWC, met with Patriarch Filaret of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Kyiv Patriarchate, Patriarch Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, and high-ranking government officials of Ukraine including Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk, the Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, the Mayor of Kyiv and the Rector of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv‏. 
Ukrainian World Congress makes case for military assistance to Ukraine in conjunction with NATO Summit
On 3 September 2014 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij sent a briefing note on The Case for Military Assistance to Ukraine to NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and the Leaders of NATO member countries for consideration during the NATO Summit being held on 4‑5 September 2014 in Newport, Wales.

Thousands of Russian troops are in Ukraine directly engaged in what is clearly an invasion and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin has been emboldened by a slow and weak response from the Western countries. 
Ukrainian World Congress President meets with Prime Minister of Ukraine and signs Memorandum on Cooperation
On 28 August 2014 in Kyiv in the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine the President of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), Eugene Czolij, joined by members of the UWC leadership, met with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk and signed a Memorandum on Cooperation between the Ukrainian World Congress and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (Memorandum). 
UWC strongly urges the international community to immediately take concrete measures in reaction to the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops
Оn 28 August 2014 the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko made a statement about the sharp aggravation of the situation in Donetsk region, particularly in Amvrosiivka and Starobeshevo, and the fact that  Russian troops were brought into Ukraine.
As a result, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) strongly urges the international community, including NATO, the United Nations, the  G7 and the European Union, to immediately react to this invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops by providing Ukraine with military and technical aid, and freezing Russia`s assets and stopping Russia`s banking transactions in the G7 countries and EU member countries until Russia removes its troops from Ukraine.

On this 23rd anniversary of Ukrainian independence being marked on 24 August 2014 the Ukrainian people continue to face Russia’s unrelenting aggression as it attempts, yet again, to suppress the will of the Ukrainian people to live in a free, democratic and Euro-integrated Ukraine.

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) condemns the desecration of the monument at the gravesite of Stepan Bandera in Munich, Germany, the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists assassinated in 1959 by a Soviet KGB agent.

Ukrainian World Congress reiterates call for military assistance for Ukraine with most recent crossing of its border by Russian military
On 14 August 2014 a convoy of Russian military vehicles, including armoured personnel carriers and tanks, crossed the border into Ukraine in plain view with clear markings of the Russian Armed Forces.

First reported by the media, the crossing of Ukraine’s border was confirmed on 15 August 2014 by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) joins the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in condemning the seizure by Russian authorities of the property of the Chernomorskaya broadcasting company, the pro-Ukrainian and largest independent broadcaster in Crimea.

Ukrainian World Congress welcomes new sanctions targeting Russian economy
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the new sanctions imposed on 29 July 2014 against specific sectors of the Russian economy as a positive development in the campaign to end Russia’s military intervention and aggression against Ukraine.

The United States, the European Union and Canada moved forward in a coordinated manner by announcing specific sanctions targeting Russia’s energy, arms and finance sectors.

Among the targets of the new measures are Russia’s largest banks, a Russian-state owned defense technology firm and the oil sector. The sanctions will curtail Russian access to U.S., EU and Canadian capital markets.
Ukrainian World Congress welcomes first UN World Day against Trafficking in Persons
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the first United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons on 30 July 2014.

The day has been designated to raise awareness around this global issue and to highlight the plight of the millions of women, men and children who are victims of trafficking from all corners of the world, as well as to encourage people to take action against this crime. 
UN report highlights deterioration of human rights situation in Eastern Ukraine
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in its latest report on Ukraine released on 28 July 2014, noted a deterioration of the human rights situation in Eastern Ukraine.
The 65-page report, which covers the period from 8 June 2014 to 15 July 2014, highlights that since mid‑April 2014, 717 people have been abducted by armed groups in Eastern Ukraine, among them journalists, OSCE representatives, civil servants and civilians, including 392 girls and women. Many victims have been tortured and the whereabouts of 375 people remain unknown.
Ukrainian World Congress condemns using children as pawns in anti-Ukrainian campaign

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) condemns the wave of kidnappings of children by Russia-backed terrorists in the war-torn Eastern region of Ukraine.
According to a report by Ukraine’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, on 26 July 2014 a terrorist group kidnapped orphans requiring constant medical care from an orphanage in Luhansk and attempted to illegally transport them across the border to the Russian Federation without any documentation.
Ukrainian World Congress calls upon the U.S. Congress to adopt the proposed Ukraine Security Assistance Act
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the introduction by the co-Chairs of the United States Congressional Ukrainian Caucus, Reps. Jim Gerlach (R-PA), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) and Sandy Levin (D‑MI), of the Ukraine Security Assistance Act (H.R. 5190) and calls upon the U.S. Congress to promptly adopt the proposed legislation.
The legislation would stipulate a clear and specific process to provide direct military and security assistance to the Government of Ukraine as it seeks to strengthen its democracy and prevent further violence and aggression by Russia-backed terrorists within its borders.
