Ukrainian World Congress welcomes recommendations of National Security Task Force urging United States military assistance for Ukraine

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the recommendations of the National Security Task Force (Task Force) of the Friends of Ukraine Network calling for increased U.S. military assistance for Ukraine.

UWC welcomes extension by Council of European Union of sanctions against Russian Federation in response to illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the extension by the Council of the European Union of sanctions against the Russian Federation for one year until 23 June 2018.

The sanctions which restrict economic relations were introduced in response to the illegal annexation by the Russian Federation of Crimea and Sevastopol in 2014 and include prohibitions on imports, certain exports, investment, and the supply of tourism services to Crimea.

Ukrainian World Congress condemns latest terrorist attack in London

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) joins the international community in condemning the terrorist attack on 18 June 2017 in London, Great Britain, against faithful leaving prayer services at a mosque.

The attacks claimed the life of one individual and injured several others.

UWC President Eugene Czolij extended greetings during Montreal premiere of documentary film Recovery Room

On 15 June 2017 at the Ukrainian Youth Centre in Montreal, Canada, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij extended greetings during a premiere screening of the documentary film Recovery Room, and particularly to Director Adriana Luhovy, Producer Yurij Luhovy and Script Editor Oksana Rozumna.

Ukrainian World Congress urges President of the United States to meet with President of Ukraine

In a letter to the President of the United States dated 15 June 2017 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij requested that President Donald Trump meet with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko prior to any meeting with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, to fully understand the challenges facing Ukraine in its efforts to defend its territorial integrity and simultaneously ensure peace and security in the region.

UWC President Eugene Czolij fulfilled working visit to Washington

On 9 June 2017 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij fulfilled a working visit to Washington, U.S.A., where he met with high-ranking officials and representatives of civil society and addressed the Annual General Meeting of the Ukrainian National Credit Union Association (UNCUA).

UWC President addressed the UNCUA AGM and presented Certificates of Recognition to Ukrainian cooperatives in the U.S.A.

On 9 June 2017, on the invitation of the Ukrainian National Credit Union Association (UNCUA) Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij participated in the UNCUA Annual General Meeting in Washington, U.S.A., where he delivered an address about the 50th anniversary of the UWC, extended greetings to the participants of the meeting and recognized Ukrainian cooperatives for their long‑standing financial support of the UWC.

UWC International Educational Coordinating Council Sends Anniversary Birthday Greetings to Lesia Khraplyva-Schur

On May 26, 2017, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) International Educational Coordinating Council (IECC) sent 90th Anniversary Greetings to Lesia Khraplyva Schur – a teacher, writer, journalist, editor, community activist and long-time member of the IECC.

Nadia Luciw, former Chair of the IECC presented the official letter of greeting from IECC Chair Oksana A. Wynnyckyj-Yusypovych at a special gathering of friends and colleagues who had come together to celebrate the Anniversary.

Ukrainian World Congress Appeal

The Ukrainian World Congress is proud to be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017 marking five decades of being the voice of the Ukrainian people within the international community.

In 1967, the Congress of Freedom united Ukrainians from 17 countries into a powerful voice of resistance to the totalitarian regime of the Soviet Union and created the World Congress of Free Ukrainians which, following the Proclamation of Ukraine’s Independence in 1991, was renamed the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC).

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) condemns the conviction by the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow on 5 June 2017 of former Director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature in Moscow Nataliya Sharina to a four years’ suspended sentence on politically motivated charges.

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the positive Statement at the conclusion of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission to Ukraine which took place 16-26 May 2017.

Mission leader Ron van Rooden noted in the statement, "The Ukrainian economy continues to recover, with growth expected to exceed 2 percent in 2017.

UWC welcomes approval of ratification of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement by Senate of the Netherlands

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the approval of the ratification on 30 May 2017 of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement by the Senate of the Netherlands.

In a statement issued shortly after the vote, the President of the European Commission Jean‑Claude Juncker stated, “Today’s vote in the Dutch Senate sends an important signal from the Netherlands and the entire European Union to our Ukrainian friends: Ukraine's place is in Europe. Ukraine's future lies with Europe.”

UWC welcomes G7 Taormina Leaders’ Communiqué in support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the G7 Leaders’ Communiqué which clearly confirms the continued support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

“The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon the international community to fully support the G7 Leaders and to act decisively in accordance with this Communiqué to stop Russian aggression against Ukraine and ensure peace and stability in Europe,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.

UWC alarmed by more shelling of civilian infrastructure by Russian Federation-backed terrorists

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) is alarmed by the shelling on 28 May 2017 by Russian Federation-backed terrorists of the town of Krasnohorivka, Donetsk oblast, Ukraine.

As a result of the shelling, which lasted for several hours, civilians were injured and dozens of residential buildings and town infrastructure, including a hospital and school, were seriously damaged.

On 24-25 May 2017, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij made a working visit to Washington, U.S.A., where he met with high-ranking government and civil society officials, and addressed the Gala Dinner on the theme, “U.S.-Ukraine: Partners in the Battle for Democracy and Security in Europe”.
