UWC President calls upon President Barack Obama to designate Ukraine as a Major Non-NATO Ally of the United States and to provide military aid

On 25 July 2014 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij sent a letter to the President of the United States Barack Obama calling upon him to designate Ukraine as a Major Non-NATO Ally of the United States and urgently provide military aid to Ukraine.

Notwithstanding the fact that Russia’s defiant aggression against Ukraine jeopardizes world peace as demonstrated by the recent downing of flight MH17 that killed 298 people from various countries, the European community continues to deny effective military assistance to Ukraine. Even more astounding is the fact that some countries are helping arm Russia – the aggressor state. For instance, France reiterated its commitment to sell French‑built Mistral class amphibious assault carriers to the Russian Navy.

The Ukrainian World Congress (
UWC) expresses condolences to the families and friends of the victims travelling on a Malaysian passenger airliner from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was shot down by Russia-backed terrorists. The flight was carrying 295 passengers from various countries.

Ukrainian World Congress welcomes the decisions of the United States and European Union to introduce further sanctions against Russia

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes today’s coordinated decisions of the United States and European Union (EU) to introduce further sanctions against Russia in response to its unabated brutal aggression in Ukraine.
The fact that these decisions were coordinated sends Russia a clear signal that it must respect its international commitments not with hollow statements but concrete actions.

The United States introduced sanctions against prominent Russian banks and energy companies, while the EU suspended new EU-backed investments in Russia. The EU is also preparing a list of individuals and companies that support actions violating the territorial integrity of Ukraine, specifically those related to the illegal annexation of Crimea and destabilization of Eastern Ukraine.

The signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is an important step toward Ukraine’s accession into the EU as a full-fledged member.

This significant event was testimony to the victory of the Ukrainian people who, in November of last year, rose up against the decision of the governing authorities of the time to reject the Association Agreement and at the cost of human lives fought on numerous EuroMaidans for their political choice of a European course for Ukraine.
